Grundfos HS horizontal split case pumps is a single-stage, non-self-priming, between bearing, centrifugal volute pump. The axially split design allows easy removal of the top casing and access to the pump components (bearings, wear rings, impeller, and shaft seal) without disturbing the motor or pipework.

The independent bearing housing allows for ease of maintenance without removing the top casing. The double volute design reduces the radial load on the shaft, extending component life, minimising vibration and providing quiet operation.

The HS pump also offers high pump efficiencies throughout the range. High energy efficiency along with long pump life and easy maintenance add up to low life-cycle costs.

SEWAGE PUMPING STATION

Although we may not think of this much, sewage pumping stations do play an extremely important role in providing efficient water and sewage services. In its raw form, sewage isn’t environmentally safe. As such, it must be treated at sewage treatment plants. However, to get there, the sewage needs to be transported underground through a series of pipes and mains.

  • A pumping station is made up of a large tank, known as a wet well, that acts as the receiver for sewage from a building or a group of buildings. Sewage from individual houses flows into the wet well.
  • The sewage will then sit in the well until it reaches a predetermined level. Once it reaches this level, a pump will kick in to pressurise the sewage so that it will travel out of the wet well, uphill, to a point where it enters the main sewer, or that it can then travel into the main sewer using gravity.
  • Some of the advantages of having and using a sewage pump station are:
  • The size of the intake on the pumps is often wide enough to be able to prevent blocking
  • The sewage is able to be pumped out automatically, without the need for human intervention.
  • The pump stations are generally fitted out with remote monitoring systems, which allow the operators to be kept up to date.
  • The sewage system is fitted with an alarm to alert maintenance personnel to any problems that may be occurring within the system.

    VACUUM PUMPS
    A vacuum pump draws gas molecules from a sealed volume in order to leave behind a partial vacuum. The job of a vacuum pump is to generate a relative vacuum within a capacity. Vacuum pumps remove air molecules (and other gases) from the vacuum chamber (or the outlet side in the case of a higher vacuum pump connected in series). As the pressure in the chamber is reduced, removing additional molecules becomes increasingly harder to remove. Therefore, an industrial vacuum system (Fig. 1) must be able to operate over a portion of an extraordinarily large pressure range, typically varying from 1 to 10-6 Torr / 1.3 to 13.3 mBar of pressure. In research and scientific applications this is extended to 10-9 Torr or lower. To accomplish this, different types of pumps are used in a standard vacuum system, each covering a proportion of the pressure range, and operating in series at times.

    Centrifugal pumps come in two basic designs of casing: diffuser and volute. The impeller is offset in a volute casing which creates a curved funnel to increase the cross-sectional area towards the outlet – causing fluid pressure to increase.
    A diffuser casing is similar, but the fluid is expelled between a set of stationary vanes causing the fluid pressure to increase. This design is more efficient as it can be tailored to specific needs. A volute casing is suitable for high viscosity fluids or entrained solid applications.
    How Does a Centrifugal Pump Work?
    Used in industrial, agricultural and domestic applications, a centrifugal pump is mostly used for pumping solvents, oils, acids, water, organics or any ‘thin’ liquids. With an easy to operate and maintain design, a centrifugal pump is efficient and used for many different applications.
    A centrifugal pump comes in a range of different types and mechanisms, including an electric water transfer pump. In this blog, we will delve into what a centrifugal pump is, how it works and cover a few different types of centrifugal pumps.

  • A canned motor pump is used in hydrocarbons or chemicals where any leakage is not permitted. It features a sealless design with an impeller directly attached to the motor rotor and wetted parts contained in the can.
  • Magnetic drive pumps are also used with chemicals and hydrocarbons and are complete with a sealless design that has an impeller driven by close coupled magnets.
  • A slurry pump is often used in mining, industrial slurries and mineral processing. This pump is designed to withstand highly abrasive slurries.
  • Frequently used for draining mines, construction sites and pits, trash pumps are able to handle highly abrasive slurries.
  • With an inline compact design, a circulator pump is used for heating, air conditioning and ventilation
  • Chopper or grinder pumps are used in industrial, chemical and food processing for wastewater or sewage. These feature an impeller with grinding teeth to break up the solids.
  • A cryogenic pump is made to tolerate low temperatures. Made from special construction materials, this pump is applied to liquid natural gas and coolants.
  • Used for high pressure applications a multistage pump uses multiple impellers to increase discharge pressures.

    JACKING PUMP


    A jockey pump is a small pump connected to a fire sprinkler system to maintain pressure in the sprinkler pipes. This is to ensure that if a fire-sprinkler is activated, there will be a pressure drop, which will be sensed by the fire pumps automatic controller, which will cause the fire pump to start.
    A jockey pump is sized for a flow less than the flow to one sprinkler in order to ensure a system pressure drop. The function of jockey pumps is an important part of the fire pumps control system.
    Jockey pumps are typically small multi-stage centrifugal pumps, and do not have to be listed or certified for fire system application. The control equipment for jockey pumps may however carry approvals.

    Sprinkler systems that require a relatively high terminal pressure to flow a large volume of water to multiple sprinkler heads, such as in large warehouses with high ceilings, also benefit from reliable booster pumps.
    In addition, when water is obtained from a static supply such as a buried tank, well or a body of water, pressure must be added to have a reliable water supply for a building’s fire protection system.
